This event, which takes place during the nationwide Carers Week at Chelmsford Central Baptist Church, is brought to you by Action for Family Carers, a Carers Trust Centre of Excellence and lead provider of Supporting Carers in Essex. Looking at the role the voluntary sector can play in supporting and enhancing health and social care services. The Conference aims to build on what has been a highly significant year for all unpaid Carers in Essex:

  • The Care Act 2014 introduced new rights for unpaid Carers and placed new duties upon local authorities
  • Essex County Council and the NHS in Essex commissioned a new all-age countywide Carer support provision which is being delivered under the name Supporting Carers in Essex

Speakers will include:

  • Essex County Councillor Anne Brown – Cabinet Member for Corporate, Communities and Customers
  • Dr Moira Fraser – Director of Policy and Public Affairs, Macmillan Cancer Support will speak about partnership between the statutory and voluntary sectors in the context of supporting Carers of people at the end of life
  • Katharine Willmette – Director for Local Delivery Adult Operations, Essex County Council will outline the council’s future plans for supporting unpaid Carers in Essex, introduce the ‘Good Lives’ initiative and launch a planned programme of Carer roadshows
  • Rachel Jennings – Programme Manager, Enable East will present the findings from their external evaluation of the impact made by Supporting Carers in Essex in its first year
