Community Corner

We opened Community Corner  in Chelmsford’s indoor market in October 2022, in partnership with City of Chelmsford Mencap and with the support of Chelmsford Markets.

This café serves hot food and a warm welcome to anyone who pops by, as well as expert information about local services, charity pop-ups, volunteering opportunities, activities and events.

Food and drink is carefully made and served by students from City Mencap’s In!Catering enterprise, which holds a 5-star hygiene rating and a 50-star enthusiasm level.  The café provides a safe space for the students to learn, and to practice their skills for the future.

Community Corner is currently open every Wednesday, with more regular days and pop-ups to follow.

CITY OF CHELMSFORD MENCAP is an independent local charity providing services for people with a learning disability across mid-Essex, ensuring they receive care and support to live life to the full. The Outreach Academy provides lifelong learning to people aged 19+. It helps students to develop their social, work and life skills in a supported environment that enables them to reach their potential.
