Consultation Invitation

Mott MacDonald Ltd are undertaking a study for the Rail Safety and Standards Board (RSSB), who are working in partnership with the Department for Transport (DfT) to embed the industry’s sustainable development principles into the upcoming rail franchise competition in East Anglia.

The scope of work involves identifying through research and engagement, key socioeconomic needs of residents within the constituent areas of East Anglia and if/how these needs can be met or supported by the East Anglia rail franchise. Research will inform the Department of Transport’s setting of the franchise objectives that will be required of the successful train operating company.

Transport is very important to communities, providing essential access to employment, education, public services and entertainment services, as well as maintaining social cohesion and inclusion.

As part of their study they intend to invite community and voluntary representatives throughout East Anglia to share their views on the social and economic needs of the communities in their area, with regards to rail transport provision. Part of the work also involves developing an environmental baseline and target for the franchise. They would like to invite as many representatives as possible at a borough or city level to share their views.

Consultations will be undertaken in March in order to feed into a final report in April. Two consultation sessions are currently planned, one in Cambridge on the afternoon of Tuesday 10th March, and one in Norwich on the morning of Wednesday 11th March. If you are unable to attend on either of these dates they will be running an online survey in parallel to capture your views.
