The Mayor of Chelmsford, Cllr Jude Deakin, surprised some local people in August with a doorstep visit to offer a personal thank you for volunteering for Chelmsford Community Resilience Hub. Hub volunteers were presented with letters from the Mayor and Lord Lieutenant, together with a card and specially designed Community Volunteer (CV) pin from Chelmsford CVS as a token of appreciation for all that they have given in these times.

Supporting local people through the COVID-19 pandemic has involved thousands of people; Community volunteers who have given time and help with essentials to enable people shielding to remain at home.

The special CV pin was designed by Chelmsford CVS, who worked in partnership with the City Council to deliver the Hub. Lorraine Jarvis CEO said: “This is just our way of paying tribute to people who stepped up to volunteer directly with our local Hub and we would like to thank the Mayor for taking the time to visit some City centre volunteers in person. What a thrill to have the Mayor turn up in your street!”

More of the 100s of volunteers who supported the Chelmsford Community Resilience Hub will be receiving formal thanks in the coming weeks through a series of presentations. See photos and read some of their Volunteer and groups stories on Twitter (@ChelmsfordCVS) or via our Website.

Caroline who volunteered throughout the lockdown said: “I love the badge and even a certificate! Feeling very valued and appreciated. You’ve all done an amazing job”
