Chelmsford Shed

Chelmsford Shed is a progression of your typical garden shed, where men can spend many hours pursuing their practical interests,  in company with others. The Shed offers the use of tools that you may not have in your home shed, the sharing of skills and expertise in areas that you may not have explored, the opportunity to chat and make friends and of course the pleasure of making and building new products.

There is mounting evidence linking loneliness to physical illness and to functional and cognitive decline; as a predictor of early death, loneliness eclipses obesity. This project came at a great time to help. Huge thanks to Chelmsford City Council for identifying a building, to Essex County Council CIF and QBE Foundation who funded the refurbishment, and to Essex Community Foundation who funded expansion of the Shed. Thanks also to the numerous local businesses that offered support during the sheds development and to the current day. The Shedders can work on their own projects and they also make products which they sell to pay for materials and ongoing running costs.

We can’t pass a skip now without looking for suitable materials!
