47 charities & volunteer involving organisations joined Chelmsford Volunteering Centre to celebrate Volunteers Week. With music from Chelmsford Community Radio and live performances by Chelmsford Gospel Choir, thousands of people thronged the High Street joining in and connecting with the myriad of activities.

This all day event was a first for Chelmsford and was attended by the Mayor and Deputy Mayor who spent the morning visiting all of the charity gazebos and specialist vehicles, helping us to celebrate that in Chelmsford every kind act, and Every Minute Matters.

Charities & local voluntary organisations came together to showcase their work and promote their services in a festival of all the good that can come of our community working together.

People were able to see first-hand some of the wonderful ways in which charities support our city, and to learn how they and their loved ones can access that help. There was also the chance to learn about all the different opportunities to get involved as a volunteer.

Lorraine Jarvis from the Centre said “ There was the most amazing buzz in the High Street, people chatting to the stalls, to each other, and finding out how volunteering can benefit them. Volunteering really is life enhancing, it was an amazing day we will be doing this again next year’.

Be it a day, a month or a lifetime commitment, whatever time and energy you can freely give has the potential to change someone’s life. Here at the Centre we firmly believe that community is a work of heart, and that everyone has something to contribute.

Grace Lidstone from City of Chelmsford Mencap said “THANK YOU to all the team at Chelmsford CVS for all your work in organising a brilliant VolFest last week. It was a fabulous event; so well organised and with a great atmosphere provided both by the entertainment and your team’s positive and friendly approach.  We are pleased to say we had considerable interest in volunteering for our Charity and are busy following up enquiries. “

Essex and Hertfordshire Air Ambulance said “Good crowd well organised and well laid out. We had lots of volunteer sign-ups, it was a great promotion of our charity. “
