The Essex Energy Switch is a community energy switching scheme, which aims to help as many residents as possible to switch providers and secure a better deal on their gas and electricity bills.

Community energy switching works by bringing together large groups of residents who want to switch energy providers into one ‘auction’. The major energy providers then ‘bid’ in auction by offering the best possible price to the collective. The provider offering the best price wins the auction, and everyone who signed up is given the opportunity to switch to the new tariff (although there is no obligation to do so).

The primary communications objectives for this campaign were based around the number of people who registered for the scheme, and web traffic to the Energy Switch page on the Essex County Council (ECC) website (www.essex.gov.uk/energyswitch). Paul Hinsley, ECC’s lead on the scheme will be happy to discuss; Paul.hinsley@essexigov.uk
