PRESS RELEASE MID ESSEX CCG

21st August 2015

There are a range of NHS services available to make sure you get the right treatment at the right time throughout the upcoming August bank holiday weekend.

If you’re unwell, you can access a variety of treatment and care by making sure you ‘choose well’ and use services such as their local community pharmacist or NHS 111.

Local community pharmacists provide free health advice to support you to self-care and no appointment is necessary. From coughs and colds to aches and pains, they can give expert help on everyday illnesses and answer questions about prescribed and over the counter medicines.

All year round, pharmacists can also advise on healthy eating, losing weight and giving up smoking and many have private areas where people can talk in confidence. You can see which pharmacies are open across the bank holiday weekends below.

NHS 111 is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including bank holidays, to offer medical advice and help when it isn’t an emergency. Simply call 111 from a landline or mobile phone to access this service for free.

If you need medical help urgently when your usual GP surgery is closed over the bank holiday weekend, you can call NHS 111 for immediate advice and to contact the GP out-of-hours service.

The Choose Well website also provides information about local health services – visit http://midessexccg.nhs.uk/your-nhs/choosewell to find out more.

Please do not forget that Accident and Emergency at your local hospital should not be used unless it is a critical or life-threatening illness or injury.
